A unique new playgroup that bridges the generation gap has started at Barcaldine Multipurpose Health Service.
The playgroup is held from 9.30 am to 10.30 am every second Thursday at the Barcaldine Multipurpose Health Service CHSP Room (HACC), with the next session scheduled for 2 May.
We’re working together with our partners, the Royal Flying Doctor Service and Lady Gowrie Qld to bring together the young and the young at heart for a fun-filled time of laughter, learning, and connection.
And it’s free – just turn up on the day, or contact the following for more information:
* Elizabeth Lynch, Royal Flying Doctor Service, 0497 843 312
* Nicky Martin, Lady Gowrie Qld, 0456 000 351

Our first session was held on 18 April and proved very popular with four seniors and six families turning up for a morning of fun that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
Through conversations with the RFDS and our mental health team last year, it became obvious we have many seniors in our communities who are alone and don’t have family, kids, or grandkids at hand.
So we came up with this concept of a playgroup for all generations, with Lady Gowrie coming on board to help with developing activities for the children taking part.
The playgroup will run every two weeks and offers a unique opportunity for bonding, allowing little ones to benefit from the wisdom of seniors, while seniors will benefit from joy and boundless energy of youth, as well as developing a closer connection to community.
It also gives us a chance to connect with seniors from a healthcare point of view and ensure they are looking after their health.
So, whether you're a toddler bursting with curiosity or a senior eager to share stories and wisdom, there's something for everyone!
Bring along your hat, snacks and water bottle and join us as we explore imaginative play, engage in creative activities, and build meaningful connections.
We decided to hold the first sessions at Barcaldine MPHS for convenience but, as we progress, future sessions may be held at other locations in Barcaldine and also at Blackall.
We will promote each playgroup as it occurs so people will now when and where.
